You should say:

How does it look like

Where did you see it

When did you see it

And how do you feel about this work

Among loads of TV series I’ve watched, nothing can beat Gossip Girls, a show I’d grown obsessed with during my high school years and still haven’t been over it yet till now.

Gossip Girls is an American TV drama series based on the book of the same name which was aired from to , including six seasons. Gossip Girls follows the lives of privileged teenagers in Manhattan’s Upper East Side with tons of twists and thoughtful moments.

There are hundreds of reasons I love the show and I have no doubt why it once was the most popular series with 18 Teen Choice Awards. First of all, the cast is breathtakingly gorgeous. Every one of them. [Serena Van Der Woodsen, a blonde and beautiful socialite and Blair Waldorf, Serena’s best friend and Queen B at their high school are two main lead actresses. Their relationship is like a roller coaster and more than once they become rivals, however, they always come around, which makes the show so beautiful to watch. Nate Archibald is the so-called “golden boy”. Chuck Bass a rich and arrogant person. And finally, Daniel Humphrey a lonely boy from Brooklyn who nobody knows.] They have great chemistry and are all talented actors. Secondly, the show has the finest fashion moments ever. It can be said that Gossip Girls gained most of its reputation thanks to its glamorous and extravagant costume collections. From their main cast to occasional cameos, they always turn heads every time they appear in their stunning outfits. Last but not least, the highlight of the show is a ruthless and notorious blogger, aka Gossip Girls whose identity remains unknown until the very last episode of the whole series, which only entices the TV audiences more. The list can go on and on and I highly recommend the series for those who want to have a glimpse into the lavish lifestyle of the upper-class as well as their fabulous fashion.

(Describe a TV drama series you’ve watched)

You should say:

How does it look like

Where did you see it

When did you see it

2.主题:Power

Okay, so recently I’ve been watching “Power” – a TV series about a guy who comes from a poor neighborhood and makes a lot of money selling drugs – and then he decides that he wants to go legit; he wants to leave his past behind and make a legitimate business with his nightclub Truth. So, the series follows the problems he and his family have to face while trying to get out of the drug business and make a legal living running clubs. Obviously, it’s not as easy as it might sound – because all his old friends still try to involve him in drug trafficking, and there always seems to be some crisis or something which stops the guy from simply making a clean break and starting afresh.

A friend of mine recommended the series; I hadn’t heard of it before, but I gave it a try. Watching a couple of episodes, and I kind of liked it. Each episode has good pacing, and the characters are interesting enough to hold your attention. The plot is also quite well written and has just enough twists and turns to keep you wondering what will happen next. Another thing I like about it is that the things that happen are credible; they’re not fantastically impossible scenarios like in some TV series – you can actually imagine how such circumstances might occur in real life and how these people would deal with them. So, the main characters are a guy called Jaimie and his wife Tasha and their two children, and Jaimie’s ex-drug partner Tommy Egan, who is still involved in the drug business. The other main character is government lawyer, Angela Valdez, who has an affair with Jaimie while the special task force she is a member of is trying to prosecute Jaimie and Tommy for drug related crimes. There are some other characters which recur throughout each episode, people who work in the club and other friends and contacts that appear repeatedly throughout the series.

It’s now in season four, although I haven’t watched this current season yet – I watched up until the end of season three, so I guess I’ll catch up with it when I have some more free time. I like watching the episodes all at once rather than one each week. But it’s one of the best TV series I’ve seen for a while – the fact that the time flies past while watching it is always a good sign that it’s enjoyable.

2.主题:13 reasons why

Okay, I’d like to share with you a TV series I’ve been watching these days called 13 reasons why.

It’s like, em, last month, I got instantly intrigued(吸引) by a recommendation from a famous blogger(博主), saying this show was rated 8.8 out of 10on IMDB(打分高达8.8. Then, for the past month, I quickly finished the whole season(季), 13 episodes(集). Actually, this TV drama is based on a best-selling book(畅销书), depicting(刻画) a story after teenager Clay Jensen found a mysterious box with his name on. Inside he discovered a group of cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker-his classmate who tragically committed suicide(自杀) several weeks earlier. On these tapes, Hannah unfolded(展开/呈现) an emotional audio diary(有声日记), detailing the thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life.

I guess the reason why I quite enjoy this teen series (青少年电视剧) is, to my surprise, it made me think a lot about life, about how our different behaviors may cause negative effects to others we interact with. Seeing Hannah suffering from confusion and desperation(迷茫和绝望) the whole time, I really hope someone like her classmates or parents could give her a helping hand(帮助她). Sadly, nobody read her mind(了解她的心思) successfully and chose to leave her alone when she said so. I know somehow it’s also Hannah herself who pushed away those who wanted to be close to her.

Anyway, I have to say committing suicide is a super reckless decision(轻率的决定). Just like one guy in the show said: suicide is for the weak. Instead of hiding or ignoring the problem, the better way to deal with depression is to go get help from others, telling them directly what you’re really experiencing.

Hopefully, this show could give us some insights(给我们一些启示) into cracking many of the problems(解决问题) that high schoolers(高中生) are facing, like suicide, school bullying(校园霸凌), drug abuse(毒品), and etc.

Describe A piece of advice you’ve received.

You should say:

what it is

who gave it to you

why you took the advice

and explain what the result was.

I can remember a time when I sought advice from a wide range of different people. It was a couple of years ago, at a previous job, when I fell for a colleague. From my perspective it was love at first sight, but I was unsure whether the feeling was mutual and I didn’t know my company’s stance on office romances.

I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t want to listen to just one person, so, as I said, I asked a few of my friends to get a broad set of opinions and points of view. A couple of people had reservations and advised caution, they recommended that I should take things slow, after all, “good things come to those that wait”. However, the general feeling was that I should go for it and ask her out. They said I had nothing to lose and I should strike while the iron’s hot. I had butterflies in my stomach, but despite being a nervous wreck, I eventually plucked up the courage to ask her out.

As it happens, I shouldn’t have listened to them. She turned me down in front of all my co-workers and I had to walk back to my desk with my tail between my legs. I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life and I’ll definitely think twice before putting my heart on the line again. As they say, “once bitten, twice shy.

Describe an important gift you had in your childhood.

You should say:

what it is

who gave it to you

what it looks like

and explain why it was important to you.

The first thing the pops into my head are my cats, Topsy and Turvy. They were my little bundles of joy whilst I was growing up.

When I was much younger I had another cat, called William. Sadly he was run over by a bus one day in front of our house. I can remember very vividly, one day I came home from school and my mum told me to look in the kitchen. I saw Topsy and Truvy and it was love at first sight. She told me when she had gone to collect them she only intended to buy one kitten, she put Topsy into the box and Turvy was mewing so loudly and scratching the box. She decided they were soul mates and couldn’t separate them.

I have no idea what kind of cats they were, all I can tell you is that they were painfully cute. Topsy was ginger and Turvy was ginger and white. Turvy had little white patches on his paws that made it look like he was wearing mittens. Topsy was a little furrier and made him look fat. One was shy and the other more outgoing. Like all brothers, they would sometimes fight and at other times cuddle up together.

Alas, they are no longer with us. Topsy passed away a few years ago and years finally caught up with Turvy finally as she bit the bullet last year. I knew that they would not live as long as me, but it’s still depressing to lose someone you love.

Describe an indoor game that you played when you were a child.

You should say:

what the game was

where you played it

who you played it with

and explain why you enjoyed this game.

I think I’d have to go for puzzles. Jigsaw puzzles to be precise. I have a huge collection, although most of them are hidden in a cupboard somewhere in my parents’ house, these days.

I used to have a special table exclusively for doing my puzzles on. Once I got into the groove, I would become immersed in the puzzle and get lost in a world of my own. Occasionally I would try to solve one with my grandmother, but this was more for her benefit as I much prefer doing it by myself. I know it sounds selfish, but it’s just not as much fun sharing the responsibility with someone else and the pay off isn’t as big at the end.

I started when I was just a toddler, putting shapes into pre-cut holes, but slowly I graduated to more complex pictures. These days it’s not unusual to find me tackling a really complex puzzle, like an “Impossipuzzle” which are double-sided and feature a picture of something very small but in large quantities, like a plate of baked beans or loads of Brussels sprouts.

In my opinion as well as being an enjoyable pastime, jigsaw puzzles are good for your mind. The brain is basically just a muscle and so it should be given a work out every now and then. Jigsaw puzzles are challenging and although they are time consuming, they provide great satisfaction once you’ve finished one.

Describe an educational TV program.

You should say:

what the program is

what type of program it is

what contents it has

and explain what you learned from the program.

I’d like to talk about a program from my childhood called “How 2”, I believe it’s originally a British TV show that was televised in my country with subtitles. The presenters certainly spoke with a British accent.

It’s hard to pin down exactly what type of program it was, I guess a mixture of science and history, with some everyday facts thrown in for good measure. The title itself is a play on words, as the series would show you ‘how to’ do certain things.

The show is aimed at kids in middle school or high school. The hosts would routinely do experiments to demonstrate science in action, I remember one in particular where the presenters were trying to pour water out of a bottle in the quickest way possible. The winner had a very good technique whereby she would swirl the water, creating a vortex and causing the liquid to fly out of the bottle far quicker than any of the others’.

As you would expect, the show got me interested in science and learning, but it also showed that you could do many experiments yourself and have fun at home, with everyday objects and materials that were easy to get hold of. At school we would need equipment and the teacher would have to supervise us, but at home we could be left to our own devices, with just a bottle and some water to keep us amused.

Describe an activity near the sea

you should say:

What it is

What you should prepare

And explain how you feel about it

The occasion that I had a special cake was two years ago. It was the last few months of my university. I had completed my dissertation and the job I had found did not start yet. So to kill the spare time, my best friend and I decided to have a travel to Tsingtao, a famous tourist city, with yummy seafood and mild climate.

One day, after we finished the tour to the undersea world, it was already 6 o’clock in the afternoon, a time for dinner. We randomly picked a restaurant on the street and ordered some local dishes. Then he said he would go out for a moment to make a phone call, as the restaurant was very noisy. I said ‘fine, I will just wait here’. It was a long wait, and he did not return until the dishes were served. In his hand, I found a cake. That was when I suddenly realized that that day was my birthday and he had not been out to make a phone call, but to look for a cake shop.

It was just a normal cake, with some cream and cereal crisps, and did not have any delicate decorations. But it was the most special and delicious cake I had ever had. We were in a foreign city, exhausted from the trip, but he still remembered my birthday which I had already forgotten. The cake was the symbol of our friendship.

Describe a place where people listen to music

How do you know this place?

How does it look like?

And explain how do you feel about this place?

I often go to a place called “Mao Live”.

Most of the time punk-rock live shows from local bands are performed there, but sometimes they have world-wide known bands perform there as well. Whenever a famous band comes to play, the place is always jam-packed with people. In case you don’t know, punk-rock music is very rebellious in its style and has a strong sense of individuality. Fans of punk-rock are full of energy and very highly Spirited. These kids know how to party and won’t take ”no” for an answer.

Now that more and more teenagers enjoy punk-rock music and more teens are starting to build their own bands and want to make music as their career, this venue is becoming increasingly popular. They make their own music and need somewhere to perform, and Mao Live has become the best place for those kids to show off their talent.

If you need to chill out after a hard day at work and you need some music to relax yourself, then Mao Live is totally the place that you want to go. People sing and dance together; they make new friends and generally let their hair down. Of course, the music they play there is simply amazing. Sometimes it can be a little loud but that’s the point of punk-rock! It’s got a good atmosphere because everyone who goes there shares the same musical tastes and. sense of style so everyone feels right at home. You can really be yourself.

A couple of months ago I went to the supermarket to buy some seeds, because I wanted to plant a tree in the garden and help with the process of reforesting my hometown. I chose the appropriate tree for my home, a small one with tiny roots and good for the summer, because the space where I will plant it is narrow and very hot.

The lady in the shop told me that the brand had a campaign supporting the care and promotion of home-grown plantations. She was giving away some extra seeds for the purchase of a tree, so she gave me some other seeds as a gift, which I could choose from a long list of possibilities. And I thought that it would be a good idea to accompany the tree with some flowers.

The gift package had fewer seeds than the one I had bought; however, there were enough to plant some beautiful flowers in the garden. I started to read the instructions and put water and the necessary elements for planting as well as making the land fertile to plant the seeds correctly.

I thought that the gift was very useful and complemented my purchase very well, because the flowers I planted grew before the tree, decorating the garden quickly while the tree grew. I decided to plant the flowers around the tree and that was a good decision because finally when both were fully grown, the garden looked very colourful.

This whole process helped me to understand the planting procedure and the care that plants require.

Receiving this gift made me feel good for two reasons: first, because I really like the campaigns which endorse care and consciousness about the environment, promoting reforestation.

All this helps people and encourages them to plant and be more aware of being committed to improving the planet. Second, I was happy with the idea of buying a tree, planting it with some flowers and growing a beautiful garden in my home.

Overall, this was a pleasant experience that I highly recommend, because it makes you feel connected to nature by contributing to improve the ecosystem.
